LW/MW 'House Station' AM Transmitter
In designRadioTransmittersRestoration
Last updated 30 September 2026
A restored set deserves something to listen to. This tiny AM transmitter takes Bluetooth or line-in audio and puts it on a quiet LW or MW channel through a small magnetic loop.
The loop current is fixed by resistors at a couple of milliamps, which keeps the field inside the UK licence-exempt limit for inductive devices (Ofcom IR 2030): strong inside the house, gone a few tens of metres away. The oscillator uses an old receiver coil and tuning gang.
At a glance
| Bands | LW or MW, switched |
|---|---|
| Audio | Bluetooth + line in, limited, 4.5 kHz low-pass |
| Modulation | Linear AM, differential-pair modulator |
| Radiator | 0.6 m magnetic loop, ≤ 2 mA |
